Nineteenth century ornamented typefaces by Nicolete Gray
Book chronologically presents ornamented types through entire 19th century. The idea I got out of it is that type and ornaments on it or around it were changing based on what was happening in ‘real-world’ at that specific time when type was created. It depended on architecture, economy, trends, technology, usage, culture, even jewellery and everything else that could influence type designers. I think even today we can still see the influence of the outer world in typefaces.
